Officers investigating after finding hanged dog

ARIZONA -- Flagstaff police are investigating a case of intentional animal cruelty after a dead dog was found strangled to death in the Sunnyside neighborhood.

According to the police report, a man reported around 3:30 p.m. Saturday that he had just returned home from work when his children told him there was a dog hanging on a fence post in the alleyway behind their residence in the 2500 block of North Center Street. Officers identified the dog as a small brown Chihuahua.

It appeared to have been strangled by a leash that had been wrapped around its neck several times.

Officers also determined it had been there for awhile. The officer removed the dog’s body and transported it to the Coconino Humane Association pending notification of the owners.

So far, police have not identified the owners or any suspects.
