There were 18 cats and nine dogs in the home.
According to deputies, four of those dogs had to be euthanized.
“To let a woman, your mother, lay in the floor in a pile of feces for several hours and you wouldn't pick her up because you were afraid of losing your animals,” said Sheriff Melton. “That's inexcusable.”
Sheriff Melton said that the victim is now in state custody and getting the care and attention she deserves.
Investigators charged the victim’s daughter, Heather Rash, with neglect of an elderly adult and animal abuse.
