OHIO -- Police and medics were called to a home in the 1400 block of Rosehill Road Oct. 5 after a 14-month-old girl was bitten by the family dog.
The reporting officer said medics were already on the scene when he arrived at 11:32 a.m. The mother said she had been sitting on the couch reading the paper when her daughter walked over to the dog as it lay sleeping.
The woman said the baby must have fallen or lay down on the animal.
The dog is a 3-year-old mixed breed. The mother said when she heard the dog attack, she ran to her daughter's aid and called medics.
"I observed the 14-month-old's injuries to be a bleeding puncture wound on the right side of her face approximately an inch from her eye," the officer wrote in the report. "She also had obvious small scratches on her face and a large scratch that went from the left side of her head, above her left eye, on her forehead."
The officer said he took photos of the child's injuries and of the dog.
He said the mother told him the dog's shots were current two years ago but that it is not licensed. He said the woman drove her daughter to Nationwide Children's Hospital to have doctors further check her injuries. He said the report was sent to Franklin County Public Health.
