Oklahoma: Hearing set to determine cost of care for dogs, cat seized in Turley animal-cruelty case against Roy Wright

OKLAHOMA -- The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office has filed a petition for a hearing in a civil case to determine the cost of caring for 21 animals that were seized last week at a Turley home.

Deputies took the animals — 19 dogs, two puppies and a cat — from a home in the 1300 block of East 63rd Street North on June 27.

The hearing in the civil case is slated for Thursday.

Preliminary documents indicate that 18 dogs and a cat were taken from the property, but more recent court documents show that an additional dog was seized.

Deputies responding to a call found the animals chained outside or running freely inside; the cat was in the garage, according to court documents.

All of the dogs were in need of medical attention, covered in fleas and didn’t have access to clean water, the documents state.

Roy Wright, who owns the home, was arrested that day and was charged Tuesday with 20 criminal counts of cruelty to animals, according to court records.

The animals are currently housed at the Humane Society of Tulsa’s emergency shelter. The petition, which was filed Friday, alleges that boarding, food and water for the animals will cost approximately $210 per day.

The initial medical costs for the 19 animals that required treatment was estimated at about $80 each, for a total of $1,520, according to the petition. It also states that additional costs for future treatment may be incurred.

Wright remains in the Tulsa Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail, according to jail records.
